Be a Volunteer Teacher

Children from low-income families are twice as likely to enter kindergarten behind their peers. Once behind, most never catch up. Give a child an equal start at school. Experience the joy of playing with and teaching a preschool-aged child.

As a volunteer teacher, you would go into the child’s home for an hour, once a week. With a parent, you would play with the child while introducing concepts they will need, such as language, numbers, letters, shapes and colors. You will be able to choose activities and books from our libraries. No experience is necessary. Training is provided.

  • Must be at least 18 years of age
  • Must pass background check through LiveScan
  • 6 month commitment — 1 hour per week
  • Attend training

This was the most rewarding volunteering I have ever done. I played with and taught the same child, with his mom, from when he was three until he entered kindergarten. It was exciting to see him develop. I don’t have grandchildren yet, but this must be what it feels like.
