Learning Home Volunteers (“LHV,” “we,” “our” or “us”) is committed to protecting the privacy of the users of our websites (the “Websites”), the users of the software applications made available by us for use on or through computers and mobile devices (the “Apps”), the readers of HTML-formatted email messages that we send that link to this policy (“Emails”), and participants in our program (the “Program”). Collectively, we refer to the Websites, the Apps, Emails, and the Program as the “Services.” Accordingly, we want you to understand what information we collect about you, how we use it, and the safeguards we have in place to protect it. This policy describes the personal information we obtain from a variety of individuals, why we collect it, how we use it, and when we share it with third parties. Personal information is any information that on its own, or in combination with other information, could reasonably identify you. Our policy also describes the choices you can make about how we collect and use your information. What personal data we collect and why we collect it
We collect personal information directly from you including when you request information or services, become a recipient of our services, volunteer, sign up for our newsletter, donate services, goods, or money to us, or fill out an application, contact, or event signup form.
Embedded content from other websites
We may collect non-personal information about how users navigate through the Websites. We may aggregate this information to improve our site, and we may share this information with outside companies. This aggregated information does not include individual names or personal data, so it does not identify you or any other user.
When you submit personal information to us in connection with making an online donation we use that information to process the donation. We also store your name and contact information in our database of donors. We may use that information to send you further information about our organization or to contact you if necessary.
We collect personal information from you offline when you provide information in conjunction with an onboarding process associated with enrolling your child, volunteering, or when you interact with us at a client event.
From Other Sources
We may collect personal information from other sources, for example, from publicly available databases and social media platforms. We need to collect personal information from you in order to allow you to participate in the Program. If you disclose others’ personal information to us or to our service providers in connection with the Services, you represent that you have the authority to do so and to permit us to use the information in accordance with this policy.
Use of personal information
We use Personal Information for legitimate purposes, including but not limited to:
- Onboarding you to the Program
- Responding to your questions, or to help you when you contact us via phone or the internet
- Sending Program related information to you
In the Program, we will engage in activities which will require your personal information, including but not limited to:
- Providing you with educational materials and marketing materials about the Program through email, ClassTag, or social media outlets. We will engage in this activity with your consent or where we have a legitimate interest.
Who we share your data with
LHV does not share personally identifiable information with any nonaffiliated third parties, except at your request and with your express permission or in the circumstances described below: We may be required to disclose information we collect pursuant to lawful requests, such as subpoenas or court orders, or in compliance with applicable laws, including, without limitation, tax laws and laws regulating charities. We may also disclose that information when we believe disclosure is appropriate to protect the rights, interests, property or safety of LHV or others. We may share aggregated statistical data with others for public relations or other purposes. We share personal information about our users and constituents with our service providers so that they are able to provide services on our behalf or ensure the quality of information provided. For example, we use service providers to process billing, secure payments, optimize services, prevent and detect fraud, send newsletters and marketing messages, support email and messaging services, analyze information, perform maintenance or audits, provide consulting services, evaluate the effectiveness of our marketing, and perform research and development. They will have only the amount of access to your personal information as is reasonably necessary to perform the tasks on our behalf and are contractually obligated not to disclose or use it for other purposes. Our service providers only use your personal information for ways described in this policy and we do not share, sell, rent or trade any information with third parties for their promotional purposes.
We will retain your personal data for the duration of the relationship, unless a shorter retention period is required by law or the data is no longer necessary for the purposes for which the data was obtained. Once our relationship with you has come to an end, we will retain your personal data for the period of time that enables us to:
- Fulfill our legal obligations, including legal retention periods;
- Investigate or defend legal claims;
- Handle your questions, requests or complaints; and
- Keep our records for analysis and audit purposes.

How we protect your data
To prevent unauthorized access, maintain data accuracy, and ensure the correct use of information, we have put in place appropriate physical, electronic, and managerial procedures to safeguard and secure the information we collect online and offline. Please note, however, that no transmission over the Internet can be 100% secure. LHV also works to protect user information offline. All of your information is housed in secure, access-restricted areas. Only employees and interested parties who need the information to perform a specific function are granted access to personally identifiable information. ALTHOUGH LHV WILL USE REASONABLE EFFORTS TO PROVIDE ALL OF THE FOREGOING SECURITY FEATURES, AND TO TREAT ALL DATA IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE POLICIES SET FORTH HEREIN, AS WITH VIRTUALLY ANY COMPUTER SYSTEM, THERE CAN BE NO ABSOLUTE ASSURANCE THAT SECURITY BREACHES WILL NOT OCCUR AND LHV HEREBY DISCLAIMS ANY LIABILITY WHATSOEVER FOR ANY SUCH SECURITY BREACHES.
